This may be an unfamiliar wine to some of you, this is due to the tiny quantities that make it to this country. Rest assured this is one of the greatest examples of Sangiovese on the planet. You may only have the slightest interest in wine but you will enjoy this. Like wearing that perfect pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes for just an evening, or taking a Ferrari for a spin around Monza then handing the keys back, this is a chance to enjoy the best.
Gianfranco Soldera holds the most ardent defense of the traditions of this most noble Tuscan wine region and style. The most thrilling, ethereal and rare example of Sangiovese from this (and any other) region.
Crafted in minute quantities, spending 48 - 75 months slowly maturing in large old oak in the cellars. This means there are always 5 or 6 vintages 'sleeping' in the cellars. He never rushes his wines to glass. An attack by a disgruntled employer in December 2012 who emptied these vats wasting many vintages and litres of this precious liquid makes this rare wine even harder to get and more preciously sought after. 2001 is a terrific vintage in Tuscany, whilst this wine has many years ahead of it, we think it looks very very tasty right. So we want to share it with you.
One of the world's great wines, layers and layers of vibrant fruit in all shades of red and black, exotic sweet spices, and graceful tannins.
We are opening this bottle to be served by the glass on Sunday June 25th from 2pm.
Cost: $89 glass, $44.50 taste
